Bed Sizes
There are a range of bed sizes that are used in various places around the world. Depending on what country you are in the specific meanings of the size designations can differ somewhat, but the names of the sizes themselves are more or less universal. The common bed sizes that are used to describe how large any given bed is today range from the twin bed (or single bed) at the lowest to the king size bed at the high end of the scale.
The twin bed size, also known as the single bed, is the smallest of all bed sizes and is designed to accommodate only a single person. In most parts of the world the twin bed size refers to a bed that is less than forty inches wide and eighty inches long. The next size up in the world of bed sizes is a full size bed: full size bed dimensions are about fifty five inches wide and the same kind of length as a twin size bed. Finally there are the queen size bed and the king size beds. These beds are slightly longer than the twin size bed and the full size bed (by a couple of inches). The queen size bed dimensions are around sixty inches wide by eighty inches long (twin size and full size beds are a couple inches shorter than eighty inches long) and the king size bed dimensions are around seventy six inches wide by eighty inches long, making your standard king size bed sizes around twice as wide as the corresponding twin bed sizes so you can easily fit two people onto the bed.
When you shop for a mattress be sure that the sizes for the part of the world from which you are buying the mattress correspond correctly with the sizes of your bed frame where you are. Usually there is not too much difference between the sizes besides a couple of inches on the length, but there can be somewhat of a difference between U.S. bed sizes for things such as a queen size air bed / queen size sofa bed or king size bed air mattress / king size air bed and the bed sizes with the same names as found in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe.
