Platform Beds
Platform beds are one of the most simple designs for a bed, and they are used in situations where people want to have a minimalist design for a bed. In many cases when it comes to platform beds, one goes for a low profile platform bed; this will often have little more then a platform which is about a foot high providing a little bit of height and support to the mattress. The mattress in a platform bed will often be simply placed on top of a flat platform. Modern platform beds may have a platform that is slightly larger than the mattress around the edges but that then is placed on top of a slightly smaller platform, giving it a kind of angular minimalist cutting-edge look, or a simple platform bed may just be a boxlike wooden structure that is about as tall as the mattress itself.
A platform bed is one of the simplest (if not the single simplest) forms of beds that you can make. You can build a platform bed just by putting together a couple pieces of wood; just make sure that the quality and the thickness of the wood are right and as long as you are able to nail and fasten a couple of boards together (and sand and finish them) you already know everything that you need to make a platform bed. Even so, platform bed plans are a must for many would be craftsmen; free platform bed plans can be found on the internet, and you can look between them to see what kind of design you like the best (although there is not a whole lot of variance between kinds of platform beds). Some of the varieties of platform beds that you can find are Japanese platform beds, captain's platform beds and the king size leather platform bed. However, besides the materials that platform beds are made out of, there tends to be little variation between the kinds of platform bed designs that are out there. Positive aspects of platform beds are the solidity of the support that they give you through the mattress and the fact that they make good day beds; negative aspects of platform beds are that they can easily be fallen off of, however the fact that they are generally very close to the ground can help to make this less of a problem.
